A Mad Affair
A Mad Affair
A radiant voice cascades over the elegant cadences of a single guitar and the grooving resonate boom of the upright bass. At times, the bouncing ting-a-ting of a ukelele and back-up harmonies dance through a song. This is A Mad Affair, a trio out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The vocals of Valerie Wood seem to sail from her body and glide across a honeysuckle-scented breeze. Garth Robertson whirls and finesses his guitar strings with a deep, humming sweetness. Like the man himself, Eric Smith's upright bass rumbles with a playful, steady beat.

A Mad Affair came together at a forest festival in the Spring of 2011. They play as if they have never left the trees and birds. Lively, heartfelt, fun and friendly
Sourwood Sweet
Sourwood Sweet
Sourwood Sweet’s founding members Faye Petree (fiddle, squeeze box, percussion & vocals) and Jeremy Wood (guitar, mandolin, percussion & vocals) first united at a glorious speakeasy unspoken in High Point, NC. The spirited sounds that emerge from their colossal collaborations range from fresh formations on Americana and bluegrass traditions to passionate takes on juke joint jazz, bawling blues and
rip-roaring rock 'n' roots romances.

These North Carolina natives have a natural knack for cranking out foot-stompin’, back-slappin’, ear-to-ear-grinnin’, all-night-dancin’ music. Rollicking yet poignant, electrified yet rootsy, traditional yet youthful, they keep one hand on the handlebars of the past with the other swinging free in the breeze. Their soulfully blended harmonies float above the fiery fiddles and grinning guitars to create acoustic acuity and affable ambience for their unique yet timeless musical encounter.

Sourwood Sweet boasts the rawness of an acoustic string band inside the intensity of a rock band, and like their name suggests they offer the bitter with the succulent, the dissonance with the resolve, and the joy with the sorrow – a full range of emotions, just like in life. Inspirational and joyously uplifting, their oeuvre is eternally catchy and digs deeper into your ears, heart and soul each time you hear them play. Their songs of travel, trial, love and leisure are enlivened with animated and vivacious vocals that will delight all those who enjoy a beautiful noise.

Digging deep, they unearth old-time sounds mixed with newfangled ideas - an epic teardown and re-creation of the soundtrack of imagination. Launching from a familiar base, they import foreign flavors to splash fuel on the outskirts of the eruption. The heartbeat of the music depends on this combustion - the heat generated by the devoted effort to pull the past into the future and make right now feel like forever.
