Redhorse Black
Redhorse Black is an amalgam of musicians from diverse backgrounds, combining elements of rock, jazz, country and bluegrass to create the unique sound, ENC"s own "Carolina Soul." When a group of like minded musicians started having regular jam sessions on the back porch of one of their good friends' homes, Redhorse Black became the house band for what many call their home away from home AKA Forbes St studio. Not long after, Redhorse Black starting booking local shows in Eastern NC. Playing mostly in the Greenville area, Redhorse Black has only been in existence since July of 2012 and are already in the recording process. This band touches on many different styles and genres ranging from Bluegrass to Motown. It is a new beginning and these guys are very excited to see what the future holds.

In the realm of musicians, Spencer is a hard working troubadour, a blue collar songster, an average guy with exceptional persistence, a poor man with rich experience, a kind hearted bloke with volcanic indignation, a self educated southerner with a universal outlook, a pragmatic artist who's personal visions burst forth from the mystical and the mundane.

His musical output rises and falls from panoramic vistas to super focused and personal accounts of particular moments of experience.
His music has been described as "Funky Fried Folk Rock", "Balladeer Pop" and "Americana Soul"
His original songs reveal depth and resonance. Trancelike onstage, his presence is intense as if wresting every bit of breath and focus into his songs. When warmed up he seems to draw fuel from the audience and the space around him. The intensity is balanced by goofy confessions and shy comments delivered through a silly grin.
His lyrics often embrace traditional rhyme and tempo structures in one song while in another flow as prosaic confessions as if he is verbalizing his feelings conversationally in the moment. All form, tempo, tones, time signatures and approach seems to be not only fair game to him but familiar territory. A multi instrumentalist, he performs mostly guitar ( acoustic and electric ) and vocal chords with the occasional wailing harmonica.
Spencer continues to tour regionally with or without a band as his sole profession while currently working on his first album and lining up a National tour to begin in spring. Most everywhere he has played from dive bars, restaurants, art galleries, clubs, and music festivals he has been invited back. His musicality has improved in many ways over the many years he has been making music. What seems to have largely contributed to his continued growth is the intense passion and energy that he obviously puts into his music.
